    • 1. About the Excellence Awards 
    • The TDSB Excellence Awards help shine a light on the untold stories of our extraordinary staff. These awards celebrate staff who inspire students by championing creative curriculum innovations, making their school or workplace more inclusive, or leading behind-the-scenes work that results in exceptional events or operations.

      This year’s nomination categories reflect the work our staff do every day to create the foundation for student achievement and well-being.

       

      NEW Award Categories’ Overview

      There are five NEW award categories. In response to feedback from nominators, staff and community, the categories are now more aligned with the work that our amazing staff do every day. They’re also designed to make it easier to understand what excellence looks like at the TDSB.

      1. Excellence in Teaching
        • New Teacher celebrates an outstanding teacher, in their first two years of teaching, who demonstrates exceptional promise and initial impact.
        • Experienced Teacher celebrates a teacher with at least three years of experience who has demonstrated a sustained record of teaching excellence and influence.
      2. Excellence in Leadership
        • New Leader  recognizes leaders with first one to four years of leadership five or more years of leadership who has demonstrated strong leadership that resulted in exceptional outcomes for a process, program, project or culture-building initiative they led.
        • Experienced Leader experience who have demonstrated sustained and impactful leadership that resulted in exceptional outcomes for a process, project, program or culture-building initiative they led.
      3. Excellence in Student Support celebrates a staff member who works every day in a school and whose dedication, care, and professionalism strengthens the daily life of their students and school communities.
      4. Excellence in Service and Operations celebrates a central staff member or a team who demonstrate exceptional commitment to efficient, client-centered, and equitable service and operational delivery that enhances staff, student or community experience.
      5. Excellence in Teamwork celebrates a team whose collective efforts resulted in exceptional outcomes for a process, project, program or culture building initiative they led.

      1. Before filling in the form, review all the sections so you understand the information and actions required to submit.
      2. You must complete all mandatory fields to submit your nomination.
      3. You can only select one award category for your nominee(s). Your nominee(s) must be in the eligible staff group described in the Award Submission section for each category.
      4. When you are ready to select the award category, be prepared to provide a detailed description of how your nominee(s) actions demonstrated each category criteria you select.
      5. Select only those criteria that apply to your nominee. There is no minimum or maximum number of category criteria needed to nominate your nominee(s). Note there is a maximum of 150 words for each criteria description.

    • Excellence in Leadership Award - New Leader: This award celebrates a leader in their first one to four years of leadership who demonstrate strong leadership behaviours and practices that resulted in exceptional outcomes for a process, program, project, or culture-building initiative they led. Through their leadership they've shown a very strong commitment to those they lead, ensuring goals are achieved together. They are the rising star whose early efforts exceed expectations. Nominees can be either a leader with staff directly reporting to them, or a leader without staff reporting to them.

      Eligible Staff: Only for a new leader in any position, in a school or department, (with or without direct reports) with one to four years of leadership experience at the TDSB.

Through innovation, use of technologies and modern practices, the staff member or team significantly contributes to revitalizing TDSB workspaces and the work that supports student achievement and well-being.

      Eligible Staff: Only a central staff member or team who work for a central support department (e.g. Business Services, People & Culture, Professional Services, Facilities, IT).

    • Excellence in Student Support Award: This award celebrates a staff member whose dedication, care, and professionalism strengthens the daily life of their school communities. This staff member plays a vital role in creating safe, welcoming, and well-functioning environments where students can learn and thrive. Their commitment to service, connection, and problem solving has a lasting impact on the well-being and success of students, families, and colleagues.

      Eligible Staff: Only for a non-teaching staff who is based in a school for their everyday work.

    • Excellence in Teaching Award - New Teacher: This award celebrates an outstanding teacher, in their first two years of teaching, who demonstrates exceptional promise and initial impact. From day one, this emerging leader has been highly committed to student achievement, belonging and well-being, and shows a profound early commitment to not only their school community but the teaching profession. They are the rising star whose early efforts go above and beyond to ignite a love of learning in their students.

      Eligible Staff: Only for a new teacher, whose first teaching position is with the TDSB, and they are in their first or second year of teaching experience.

    • Excellence in Teaching Award - Experienced Teacher: This award celebrates an educator with at least three years of experience who has demonstrated a sustained record of teaching excellence and influence. This award is for a teacher who is not only exceptional in their own classroom, but who also mentors, leads, and significantly elevates the practice of their colleagues across the school or the broader TDSB, with a focus on student achievement, belonging and well-being.

      Eligible Staff: Only for a Teacher with 3 years or more teaching experience at the TDSB.

The team has shown a deep commitment to collaborate, innovate, and hold each other to high standards to ensure they are exceeding expectations.

      Eligible Staff: Only for a group of staff or formal team, within a school or department, or a group of staff or formal team formed across schools and departments, working to achieve specific goals.

    • 5. Reference Submission

    • Reference Submission

    • Your nomination submission must include one reference to support your nominee’s demonstration of excellence for the category you’ve selected them for. You can choose to submit a written OR a video reference. Follow instructions below.

      General reference information:

      • Has to be from a TDSB staff member(s), community member(s) or student(s) who has a strong knowledge of the nominee’s work for the category you’re submitting them for
      • Must describe in written, or video, format how the nominee is demonstrating excellence for the category
      • Must be submitted in this nomination submission form below (cannot be an attachment)

      Written reference:

      • Has to be typed, or copied and pasted into the text box below (e.g. the reference’s description can be created outside of this form, and copied and pasted by the nominator into the space below)

    • 6. Saving & Submitting Your Nomination  
    • To save your progress and/or submit your nomination, you will need to do the following:

      Save your progress: The nomination form allows you to save your progress before submitting the completed form. Here are the steps for saving your progress: 

      1. Click the "SAVE Nomination" button below.
      2. Click on "Skip Create an Account" at the bottom of the window that pops up. There is no need to sign up for an account to save your draft.
      3. Enter the email of the person that is submitting the form to receive a link to the draft and click "Send". Or, click on "Get Draft Link" to copy the link to the draft before closing the browser.
      4. If you are waiting for an email, wait a few minutes before closing the window to ensure you receive the email.
      5. Use the draft link to update your nomination form as often as needed up until the Friday, February 27th submission deadline. Make sure to click "SUBMIT Nomination" once the form is completed.

      Submit your nomination: When you are ready to submit your nomination, click the "SUBMIT Nomination" button at the bottom of the form. 

      Note: If you do not click on "Submit Nomination", when you are ready to submit the form, it will not be received by the Excellence Awards Committee.

      Personal information on this form is collected under the authority of sections 58.5(1) and 171.(1), paragraph 28 of Education Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.E.2 (as amended) and will be used by the Toronto District School Board to support the planning of the TDSB Excellence Awards.
